Much better suspension, better power. KLX has very soft seat foam, foot pegs are too low and drag in ruts,KLX is also hard starting when hot and has no manual compression release to clean out a flooded engine, suspension to soft and forks have a lot of stiction. For me the WR is a lot more fun to ride and own.

KLX's are great machines, a few buddies of mine have them. In stock trim, the DR's power wins hands down. But once you big bore a KLX and tune the suspension a bit, It wins in every department. As far as reliability, both bikes are proven machines. Crashablity, the DR takes the cake with no radiators and water pump covers to bust. Off road riding is all about weight and suspension. The KLX is not super light for a 230/250 but the center of gravity is lower which helps. The suspension is soft but much better then most stock Japanese bikes. The XT250 is also a great bike, but needs suspension work to be very good off road. The KLX is just a more modern bike then the XR from the cooling to the suspension. There is actually a shootout somewhere on the internet between the two plus the 250 DRZ. It comes down to the XR but the XR and the KLX were real close. Try to search for it. How could a trail 230 dirt bike be anywhere near a race 450???? We'll show you how!! The 230 is a aircooled motor while the 300 is more of a racing oriented motor with water cooling and higher compression personally I’d get the 300 all day just because the power comes in handy and it’ll be a more dialed bike if you’re trying to do wheelies and hooligan shit.
